Job Description

An established FinTech client is a global data and AI platform empowering investment professionals to turn complex financial information into actionable intelligence. The Office of the CTO (OCTO) is seeking a Senior Staff Software Architect who combines deep technical expertise with exceptional organizational leadership. This is not a traditional architecture role focused solely on reviewing designs or governing standards. Instead, you will serve as a strategic technical leader operating across the company—identifying opportunities, solving systemic challenges, shaping technology strategy, and helping the firm build for the future. As part of the CTO's team, you will act as a trusted technical advisor, change agent, and connector across engineering, product, infrastructure, security, and business teams. You will evaluate emerging technologies, identify architectural gaps, define engineering standards, and lead high-impact initiatives that influence the direction of the company. This role is ideal for a curious technical generalist who enjoys solving problems that don't fit neatly into organizational boundaries. You'll work on some of the firm's most strategic initiatives—from AI-enabled platforms and developer productivity tools to infrastructure modernization, reliability improvements, and scalable architectural frameworks. Most projects within OCTO are highly strategic, fast-moving engagements that typically last fewer than six months. You will help define the vision, architect the solution, establish the foundation, and partner with teams to transition ownership for long-term execution and support.

  • Compensation: $170,000–$270,000 plus bonus and equity.
  • Work Arrangement: This role can be hybrid in New York City (2–3 days per week) or 100% remote with occasional travel, depending on the candidate's situation.
  • Work Authorization: At this time, the company cannot offer sponsorship. Only Green Card holders or U.S. Citizens will be considered.

Responsibilities:

Drive Technology Strategy

  • Partner directly with the CTO and senior leadership to define and execute strategic technology initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, platforms, and vendors to determine their applicability and value to the firm.
  • Identify technology gaps, organizational inefficiencies, and architectural risks across the company and develop actionable solutions.
  • Shape technology roadmaps that align business objectives with long-term technical investments.

Influence Architecture Across the Organization

  • Define, champion, and operationalize architecture standards, engineering best practices, and technical governance.
  • Build alignment and consensus across multiple engineering organizations with differing priorities and perspectives.
  • Partner with teams to improve scalability, reliability, availability, security, and operational excellence.
  • Provide architectural leadership for initiatives that span multiple systems, teams, and business domains.

Build and Accelerate Strategic Platforms

  • Lead the architecture and early-stage development of new platforms and strategic capabilities, including AI-powered tools and internal developer platforms.
  • Establish technical foundations, prove concepts, and accelerate adoption before transitioning ownership to long-term product teams.
  • Help teams navigate complex architectural decisions involving cloud services, distributed systems, integrations, and platform design.

Drive Organizational Impact

  • Foster knowledge sharing, technical excellence, and architectural consistency across the company.
  • Influence engineering culture by introducing new practices, frameworks, and approaches that improve how teams build and operate software.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to engineering leaders, architects, and product stakeholders.
  • Create clarity and context around complex technical challenges to help organizations move forward together.

Mentor and Lead Through Influence

  • Coach engineers, architects, and technical leaders on architectural thinking and system design.
  • Build trust and credibility across teams through collaboration, empathy, and strong communication.
  • Drive meaningful change without relying on organizational authority.

Required Qualifications:

Technical Excellence

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience with a history of building and scaling complex distributed systems.
  • Significant architecture leadership experience across cloud-native SaaS environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern application architecture, microservices, platform engineering, reliability engineering, developer tooling, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience evaluating and introducing new technologies into large engineering organizations.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML technologies, AI platforms, or AI-enabled developer and business tools.

Organizational Leadership

  • Demonstrated success leading large cross-functional initiatives involving multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience creating and implementing engineering standards, architectural frameworks, and best practices.
  • Proven ability to build alignment among diverse groups and drive consensus around difficult technical decisions.
  • Strong track record of influencing organizational change and improving engineering effectiveness.
  • Ability to identify systemic problems, connect teams, and create scalable solutions that benefit the broader organization.

Communication & Influence

  • Outstanding communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management experience, including work with senior engineering and business leaders.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and creating clarity where it does not exist.

If you meet the required qualifications and are interested in this role, please apply today.
