Our client is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to join their team in Washington, DC. This is a hands-on, employee-focused role responsible for managing employee relations, conducting workplace investigations, advising leaders on performance management, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies across multiple business locations. The ideal candidate is a trusted HR professional with strong judgment, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to build relationships while navigating complex employee matters. This position requires someone who enjoys partnering closely with leaders, supporting employees, and maintaining a positive and compliant workplace culture.

  • Salary: $78,000–$85,000, based on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary HR partner for employee relations matters, providing guidance and support to managers and employees.

  • Manage employee concerns, workplace conflicts, and performance-related issues from intake through resolution.

  • Conduct workplace investigations, document findings, and provide recommendations for appropriate action.

  • Coach leaders on performance management, corrective action, disciplinary processes, and terminations while ensuring consistency and compliance.

  • Interpret and apply company policies, employment laws, and applicable labor agreements.

  • Support leave administration, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other federal, state, and local leave requirements.

  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation within the HRIS system.

  • Ensure compliance with I-9 requirements, employment documentation, required trainings, and HR audits.

  • Partner with leadership to promote a positive employee experience and foster a respectful workplace culture.

  • Build strong relationships with managers across multiple locations while serving as a trusted HR advisor.

  • Participate in additional HR projects and initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

  • 4–6 years of progressive Human Resources experience with a strong emphasis on employee relations.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations and managing complex employee relations matters.

  • Solid understanding of federal and state employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and Title VII.

  • Experience supporting unionized workforces is highly preferred.

  • Experience within hospitality, entertainment, retail, healthcare, manufacturing, or other multi-site environments is a plus.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations.

  • Experience with Paycom or a comparable HRIS is preferred.
