We are hiring an Art Director for a top beauty company in NYC! The Art Director is responsible for owning and evolving the brand's visual identity across all consumer touchpoints. The Art Director leads creative execution across campaigns, content, product launches, and evergreen initiatives, partnering closely with the AVP Creative Director, marketing, product, and external collaborators to ensure clarity, consistency, and creative excellence as the brand continues to scale.

  • Pay: $56/hour
  • 4 month contract (opportunity to extend)

Responsibilities:

Creative Direction & Brand Stewardship

  • Own and evolve the brand's visual identity across campaigns, content, product launches, and evergreen channels
  • Translate brand strategy and product storytelling into clear, compelling visual narratives that reflect brand's NYC energy, professional credibility, and science-forward positioning
  • Maintain brand standards and ensure visual consistency across all outputs and platforms
  • Uphold a high bar for craft, composition, typography, color, and image-making

Creative Execution

  • Concept and execute creative across digital, social, paid media, e-commerce, merchandising, retail, and print
  • Design and oversee key assets, including:
    • Print, social, and e-commerce dossiers
    • Media and e-commerce how-to materials, storyboards, and creative frameworks
    • Retail and merchandising materials
  • Optimize creative for platform-specific formats, performance goals, and audience engagement
  • Ensure creative solutions are elevated, relevant, and appropriate for each channel

Production & Shoot Direction

  • Develop creative direction for photo and video shoots, including casting, styling, set design, shot lists, and on-set art direction
  • Lead confidently on set, problem-solve in real time, and make decisive creative calls
  • Partner with photographers, stylists, producers, editors, and retouchers to deliver high-quality assets
  • Oversee production and post-production timelines, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail through final delivery

Creative Leadership & Ways of Working

  • Proactively push creative beyond initial briefs, offering strong visual POVs and elevated solutions
  • Ask thoughtful, critical questions to fully understand project objectives, scope, and business needs
  • Take ownership of creative execution from kickoff through final delivery
  • Manage a high volume of work with strong prioritization, efficiency, and consistent pace
  • Communicate clearly, proactively, and professionally with cross-functional partners and project teams
  • Demonstrate strong judgment in post-production, identifying issues early and escalating when needed
  • Provide clear direction, feedback, and mentorship to junior creatives when applicable

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional and leadership teams
  • Partner with in-house creative teams (copy and video) to develop integrated, multi-channel campaigns
  • Manage and direct freelancers, photographers, stylists, and production partners as needed
  • Present creative work clearly and confidently to stakeholders

Cultural Awareness & Growth

  • Stay informed on trends across beauty, fashion, content, and culture — with a particular pulse on the professional haircare and salon community
  • Bring relevant cultural insights into creative strategy and execution to keep work fresh, competitive, and culturally resonant

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as an Art Director or Senior Designer in an omnichannel environment
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating work across social, e-commerce, merchandising, retail, and print
  • Proven experience art directing photo and video shoots
  • Strong foundation in visual storytelling, typography, layout, and image-making
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally and managing external partners
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and modern creative workflows
  • Working knowledge of AI-powered creative tools and platforms, with the ability to use these tools to support ideation, visualization, and creative development
  • Beauty or haircare industry experience strongly preferred, with an understanding of texture, shade systems, and the stylist/consumer dynamic
