POSTED 8/14/2026
Our client, a major media and telecommunications company in London, is looking for a Product Designer for an initial 3-month contract to help evolve and strengthen the design system supporting a complex back-end tool. This role sits at the intersection of product design, design systems and emerging AI-enabled workflows, with a focus on making the system more consistent, scalable and usable for designers and product teams. You’ll audit the existing design system, identify gaps and inconsistencies, refine components and patterns, and improve the documentation so teams can more easily understand and apply the system. A key part of the role will be structuring the system and its documentation so it can be effectively referenced by an augmented model, supporting faster, more consistent prototyping and product development. The ideal candidate is a systems thinker who is comfortable working within complex digital products and knows how to turn fragmented design patterns into a clear, scalable and well-documented design system.
Location: West London, 3 days per week on-site
Length: 3 months to start
Rate: £50–£65 per hour
Responsibilities
Audit the existing design system across components, patterns, layouts, interaction models and usage guidelines to identify inconsistencies, gaps and opportunities for improvement
Evaluate how the design system is currently being used within the back-end tool and recommend improvements that increase consistency, usability, accessibility and scalability
Clean up, organise and standardise design system documentation so it is clear, concise, searchable and easy for product teams to reference
Refine existing components and patterns and establish clear guidance around appropriate usage, variants, states, behaviours and accessibility considerations
Identify missing components, patterns and documentation needed to support the continued evolution of the back-end product
Partner closely with UX, product, engineering, content and other design stakeholders to understand system needs and drive alignment
Establish a clear information architecture and documentation structure that makes design system knowledge easy to find and understand
Prepare design system documentation and component metadata in a structured, referenceable format that can be leveraged by augmented AI models for prototyping and design exploration
Consider how AI-assisted workflows can use design system rules, components, patterns and documentation to generate more consistent and accurate prototypes
Help establish standards for maintaining the system as new components, patterns and product requirements emerge
Create and refine prototypes that demonstrate how the design system should be applied across complex back-end workflows
Conduct design reviews and audits to ensure product experiences remain aligned with established system standards
Translate complex product and technical requirements into clear, scalable design solutions
Advocate for design system adoption and help teams understand not only what components to use, but why and how they should be used
Qualifications
7+ years’ experience as a Product Designer, UX Designer or similar, with meaningful experience working with design systems
Strong understanding of design system principles, including components, patterns, tokens, variants, states, accessibility and documentation
Experience designing complex back-end, enterprise, SaaS, administrative or data-heavy tools
Strong Figma skills and experience working with component libraries and design system structures
Experience auditing existing design systems and identifying opportunities to improve consistency, scalability and usability
Excellent information architecture and documentation skills, with the ability to organise complex systems into clear, referenceable guidance
Experience partnering closely with engineers to understand technical constraints and ensure design systems can be effectively implemented
Ability to think systematically while still applying strong product and interaction design judgement
Strong understanding of UX principles and the ability to design intuitive experiences for complex workflows
Experience creating prototypes to test, demonstrate and communicate design system patterns
Familiarity with AI-assisted design or prototyping workflows and an understanding of how structured design knowledge can support augmented or AI-enabled tools
Strong attention to detail and an ability to identify inconsistencies across large and complex product ecosystems
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across design, product, engineering and other stakeholders
Comfortable working in an evolving environment where the design system, product requirements and AI-enabled workflows are continuously developing
If you meet the required qualifications and are interested in this role, please apply today.
