We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead a growing Institutional Engineering organization focused on delivering innovative risk and analytics solutions for institutional investors. This role will oversee multiple engineering teams and engineering leaders, with approximately 20-25 direct and indirect reports, while partnering closely with Product, Go-to-Market, and client-facing stakeholders to deliver complex, enterprise-grade solutions. The ideal candidate will come from an investment bank, asset manager, hedge fund, private equity firm, fintech, market data provider, or risk technology company and possess deep expertise in Credit Risk and/or Market Risk platforms, financial risk frameworks, and institutional investment workflows. This position requires a strong technical leader with architectural depth, organizational leadership experience, and the ability to engage directly with sophisticated institutional clients.

  •  New York City, NY (Hybrid, 2-3 Days Per Week)
  •  Compensation: $250,000 - $330,000 Base + Annual Bonus + Equity

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering organization supporting institutional investment solutions
  • Manage engineering managers, architects, and software engineering teams across multiple initiatives
  • Establish engineering goals, operating metrics, and delivery processes that drive execution and accountability
  • Partner with senior leaders across Engineering, Product Management, and Go-to-Market functions to define strategy and execution plans
  • Build and scale teams capable of delivering business-critical capabilities for institutional investors

Product & Technology Leadership

  • Drive the technical vision, architecture, and execution of institutional risk and analytics products
  • Lead the integration of third-party risk technology platforms into a broader enterprise ecosystem
  • Collaborate with Product and client stakeholders to define and prioritize strategic roadmaps
  • Guide architectural decisions across cloud-native platforms, APIs, data pipelines, and distributed systems
  • Champion engineering excellence through modern development practices, automation, observability, security, and continuous delivery

Client & Business Partnership

  • Serve as a senior engineering leader in discussions with institutional clients, prospects, and strategic partners
  • Translate complex investment and risk management requirements into scalable technology solutions
  • Work closely with some of the largest investment organizations globally to ensure successful product adoption and delivery
  • Help shape products that support sophisticated institutional investment and risk management workflows

Required Qualifications:

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant leadership responsibility
  • Director-level leadership experience or demonstrated readiness to step into a Director role
  • Experience managing large engineering organizations, including managers, architects, and software engineers
  • Proven success leading teams responsible for financial risk frameworks, risk analytics, or institutional investment technology
  • Deep domain expertise in Credit Risk and/or Market Risk systems
  • Experience working within:
    • Investment Banks
    • Asset Managers
    • Hedge Funds
    • Private Equity Firms
    • FinTech Companies
    • Market Data Providers (Bloomberg, ICAP/BrokerTec, or similar)
    • Risk Technology Platforms

Technical Background

  • Strong architectural expertise across modern cloud-native technologies
  • Experience with enterprise software platforms serving highly regulated financial institutions
  • Knowledge of microservices, APIs, distributed systems, data engineering, and security frameworks
  • Track record of delivering scalable, mission-critical financial applications

Leadership & Communication

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Comfortable interacting directly with institutional clients and executive stakeholders
  • Collaborative leadership style with an ability to influence across engineering, product, and commercial teams
  • Passion for building high-performing teams and developing engineering talent
