We are hiring a Freelance Designer to lead the seasonal design and development process for our Girls' Sportswear business (sizes 7-16). This role is ideal for someone who combines trend insight, strong graphic capabilities, and product development expertise to create compelling, market-driven collections.

  • Location: 4 days onsite in NYC office, 1 remote day per week
  • Hourly rate range: $40.00-$50.00 based on years of experience in girls apparel design

Responsibilities:

  • Execute the seasonal design process from concept through delivery, creating original and trend-right product assortments that align with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Develop innovative design concepts, silhouettes, prints, patterns, graphics, and color stories for girls' sportswear.
  • Create detailed Illustrator sketches, technical packages, and production-ready artwork files.
  • Research market trends, consumer insights, competitive products, and emerging fashion opportunities.
  • Create inspiration boards, color palettes, design presentations, mockups, and concept materials.
  • Identify opportunities to innovate within seasonal assortments while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Partner closely with Technical Design, Production, Merchandising, and overseas vendors throughout the product development cycle.
  • Review and comment on artwork submissions, lab dips, print approvals, fit samples, and production materials.
  • Ensure adherence to development calendars and key milestones.
  • Maintain accurate product information within PLM systems and design archives.
  • Select and evaluate fabrics, trims, prints, and graphics.
  • Maintain fabric and trim libraries.
  • Support color approval processes and ensure consistency with brand standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in Girls' Sportswear Design (sizes 7-16).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, with advanced Illustrator skills.
  • Experience creating graphics, prints, and patterns for apparel.
  • Hands-on experience preparing production artwork and collaborating with factories.
  • Experience reviewing strike-offs, artwork submits, and providing production feedback.
  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) experience.
  • Strong sketching, technical design, and garment construction knowledge.
