We are looking for a Director of Operations to sit at corporate and serve as the connective tissue between our manufacturing sites, distribution network, commercial teams, and external partners. You will own the purchase order lifecycle end to end and be the single source of truth for where product is, where it's going, and when it will arrive. This is a role built on project management discipline and cross-functional influence rather than direct authority over the plants. The people who succeed here are organized and comfortable driving accountability across teams that don't report to them. When a shipment slips or a supplier misses, you are the person who knows first, tells the right people, and drives the recovery plan.
- Role is 3 days a week onsite and 2 remote each week in either their Hillside NJ or Plainview NY office locations.
- Salary at full time is approximately $150-170K plus benefits - 401K matching, PTO and others. Please see below and if interested, send your resume and we can speak further.
Responsibilities:
Purchase order lifecycle, end to end
- Own the PO process from requisition through creation, supplier acknowledgment, production, shipment, receipt, reconciliation, and closure.
- Maintain accurate PO data in [ERP] dates, quantities, costs, and status and hold the organization to data discipline.
- Monitor open POs against commit dates; identify at-risk orders early and drive resolution before they become customer-facing problems.
- Manage exceptions: short shipments, price and quantity discrepancies, receiving mismatches, and invoice reconciliation with Finance and AP.
- Document and continuously improve the PO workflow, including approval thresholds, controls, and system automation opportunities.
Product visibility and cross-functional communication
- Serve as the central point of communication on inventory position and in-transit product across the network.
- Build and maintain the reporting and cadence that keep partners informed order status dashboards, weekly supply reviews, and escalation protocols.
- Communicate proactively with internal partners (Sales, Demand Planning, Customer Service, Finance, Marketing) on supply timing, risks, and changes.
- Manage external communication with suppliers, co-manufacturers, co-packers, 3PLs, and carriers; run supplier check-ins and resolve issues directly.
- Translate operational detail into clear, decision-ready updates for leadership. No surprises.
Project management
- Lead cross-functional operational projects from scoping through delivery: new item launches, packaging and formula changes, supplier transitions, network or system changes.
- Build project plans with clear owners, milestones, and dependencies; run the meetings that keep them on track and surface risk early.
- Manage new product introductions in partnership with Marketing, R&D, and the plants timelines, component readiness, first production runs, and launch inventory.
- Drive process improvement initiatives across the order-to-delivery cycle, with measured outcomes.
Cost, margin, and vendor management
- Support sourcing, negotiation, and ongoing management of supplier, co-man, and 3PL relationships, including pricing, terms, and service-level performance.
- Maintain vendor scorecards covering on-time delivery, fill rate, quality, and responsiveness; lead corrective action where performance lags.
- Identify and deliver cost-reduction opportunities across materials, freight, and third-party services with quantified, tracked savings.
- Partner with Finance on purchase price variance, landed cost accuracy, standard cost updates, and operations budget management.
- Monitor inventory investment against turns and service-level targets; reduce obsolescence, excess, and stockouts.
Skills:
Required
- Years in operations, supply chain, or procurement, with meaningful experience in consumer packaged goods.
- degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated project management experience leading cross-functional initiatives on deadline
- Hands-on ownership of purchase order or procure-to-pay processes, including exception management and reconciliation.
- Track record of influencing and driving accountability across teams outside your reporting line.
- Strong ERP fluency and advanced Excel; comfort building reporting from messy data. They work in Sage X3 so having it would be a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Experience managing external partners such as co-manufacturers, co-packers, 3PLs, or carriers.
- Willingness to travel 10% to manufacturing sites, distribution centers, and suppliers.
Preferred
- CPG, Non-durable goods experience preferred
- Experience with new product introduction or commercialization processes.
- Experience supporting a multi-site manufacturing and distribution network.
