We are working on a Senior Handbag Designer role in the LA area.  It will be working on handbags and SLGs for 2 off price brands. Strong focus on product development and design.  Hybrid schedule - 3 days onsite and 2 remote currently.  The ideal candidate combines strong creative handbag design capabilities with hands-on product development expertise. This individual has a strong fashion sensibility and the technical knowledge to independently manage product from concept through production while balancing design, quality, cost, and delivery requirements. The Senior Handbag Designer is responsible for the design and product development of seasonal handbag collections from initial concept through production. This role combines creative design with hands-on product development, including CAD creation, technical development, factory communication, materials and hardware development, costing, sample management, and production readiness. This individual owns the development process, working directly with overseas factories to ensure products are brand-right, commercially relevant, technically accurate, cost-effective, and delivered on schedule.

• Temp to perm opportunity with the full time salary of $110-115K plus bonus and other benefits. 

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop seasonal handbag collections based on brand direction, market trends, customer needs, and business objectives.
• Create and maintain CADs, tech packs, construction specifications, artwork, color information, and factory development instructions.
• Manage the product development from concept through production, including materials, trims, hardware, samples, revisions, approvals, and development tracking.
• Communicate directly with overseas factories regarding product development, construction, costing, sample execution, and timelines.
• Review and quality-check prototypes and samples, providing clear technical comments and managing revisions through final approval.
• Manage product costing, price sheets, and factory negotiations to meet target costs while maintaining design and quality.
• Create and maintain seasonal line sheets and coordinate product samples for photography, e-commerce, internal reviews, and buyer meetings.
• Prepare and present product for buyer meetings and execute design changes and additional development based on customer feedback.
• Review purchase orders and maintain accurate SKU, sample, and product information throughout the development and order process.
• Manage seasonal development calendars, multiple deliveries, and a high volume of SKUs to ensure key milestones and production deadlines are met.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Accessories Design, Product Development, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of handbag design and product development experience.
• Strong creative and technical handbag design skills with knowledge of current fashion and market trends.
• Strong understanding of handbag construction, materials, trims, hardware, and manufacturing.
• Proficiency in CAD development, tech packs, and construction specifications.
• Demonstrated experience managing product from concept through development, costing, sampling, and production.
• Experience communicating and negotiating directly with overseas factories.
• Strong understanding of costing, target FOBs, margins, and cost engineering.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong communication, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.
• Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
