Job Description

Our client, a leading smart home technology company, is seeking a UX Designer to join their Brand and Digital Design team on a contract-to-hire basis. This is a mid-level role for a designer who combines thoughtful problem-solving with strong visual design craft, owning defined projects from discovery through developer handoff across marketing and ecommerce web experiences. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, seeks feedback at the right moments, and refines designs based on research, data, and implementation realities.

  • This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a pay rate of $60-65/hour. 4 days onsite with offices in Long Island City.

Responsibilities:

  • Design responsive experiences for the marketing website and ecommerce journeys, including landing pages, product pages, package selection, cart, and checkout across desktop and mobile.
  • Translate customer needs, business requirements, and project briefs into user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity designs, and interactive prototypes.
  • Identify usability issues and opportunities through customer feedback, usability testing, analytics, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Design clear navigation, content hierarchy, interactions, and interface states with accessibility considered throughout.
  • Partner with senior UX leadership, marketing stakeholders, copywriters, and developers to align design solutions with customer needs and business goals.
  • Use and contribute to the existing design system, including reusable components, patterns, and documentation that support consistency across web experiences.
  • Present design decisions clearly, incorporate feedback thoughtfully, and communicate progress, tradeoffs, and dependencies to stakeholders.
  • Prepare organized Figma files and developer-ready specifications, partnering with developers through implementation and reviewing the built experience for design quality.
  • Manage defined projects and deadlines independently with guidance from senior design leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • Portfolio demonstrating UX thinking, strong interface design, and a clear process from problem definition through final solution.
  • 2+ years of relevant professional UX/UI design experience, including in-house, agency, or freelance work, with the ability to carry defined digital projects from discovery through handoff.
  • Proficiency in Figma, including auto layout, components, variants, and interactive prototyping.
  • Proficiency with AI tools to explore concepts, generate and refine interface ideas, and streamline design workflows while applying sound UX judgment.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design, responsive behavior, accessibility, information architecture, and interaction design.
  • Strong visual design skills across typography, layout, hierarchy, and brand application with attention to detail across interface states.
  • Collaborative approach, openness to feedback, and ability to explain design decisions and work through constraints with stakeholders and developers.
  • Strong organization, time management, and communication skills with the ability to balance customer needs, business goals, and delivery timelines.
  • Degree in UX Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience demonstrated through a strong portfolio.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing ecommerce, product discovery, configuration, or checkout experiences.
  • Experience contributing to design systems and reusable component libraries.
  • Experience planning usability tests, interpreting analytics, or designing experiments to improve digital experiences.
  • Working knowledge of HTML/CSS and how design decisions translate into web implementation.
