Job Description

Our client, a leading smart home technology company, is seeking a Lead Content Strategist to join their Brand and Digital Design team. This is a contract to hire opportunity (full-time hours) available in New York, NY. In this role, you will serve as the connective tissue between customer insight, content strategy, creative execution, and content architecture — ensuring customers encounter clear, accurate, and compelling information at every stage of their journey.

  • This contract to hire role is hybrid in office (Long Island City) 3 days per week. Pay rate: $60-80/hour.

Responsibilities

Content Experience Strategy

  • Research and analyze what prospective and existing customers need to understand, decide, or accomplish at each point in their relationship with the brand
  • Audit existing content to surface gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Recommend the right mix of messages, stories, comparisons, and tools to help customers make confident decisions
  • Develop content strategies for key customer journeys, product launches, campaigns, and digital experiences
  • Define the purpose, audience, intended message, format, placement, and success criteria for proposed content
  • Use research, search behavior, analytics, customer feedback, and business priorities to guide content planning

Creative Brief Development

  • Write clear, actionable briefs that equip writers, designers, video teams, and other creative partners to produce the right content
  • Provide creative teams with the customer context, strategic rationale, required messaging, supporting evidence, and success measures they need to do their best work
  • Collaborate closely with creative teams throughout the development process, offering guidance without over-prescribing solutions
  • Review concepts and finished work for alignment with customer needs, content strategy, brand standards, and experience goals
  • Support teams in adapting content across formats and moments while preserving its core meaning

Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Content Modeling

  • Translate customer and business requirements into structured content models within Adobe Experience Manager
  • Define and maintain AEM Content Fragment models covering products, packages, offers, services, pricing, claims, and other shared information
  • Develop taxonomies, metadata schemas, relationships, and information architecture to support content reuse and discoverability across experiences
  • Partner with AEM architects, engineers, authors, and designers to ensure content structures serve both end users and content teams
  • Establish consistent naming conventions and terminology standards across all customer-facing touchpoints
  • Build governance frameworks for regulated or sensitive information such as pricing, claims, and disclosures
  • Design content structures that support bilingual (English and Spanish), accessible, and future-ready localized experiences
  • Optimize content for search and AI retrieval systems

Cross-Functional Facilitation

  • Lead working sessions that bring together customer needs, business requirements, and diverse stakeholder perspectives to reach clear decisions
  • Partner across research, design, creative, brand, marketing, legal, product, and engineering throughout the content lifecycle
  • Define quality standards and evaluation criteria for content usefulness, consistency, findability, and customer comprehension
  • Document and share what is working to continuously improve content decision-making

Required Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of experience in content strategy, content design, information architecture, editorial strategy, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience with Adobe Experience Manager in a complex digital environment
  • Proven expertise designing and implementing AEM Content Fragment models, including fields, relationships, metadata, taxonomy, validation, and governance
  • Deep understanding of how structured content moves through AEM and is consumed by authors, components, APIs, and customer-facing experiences
  • Experience working directly alongside AEM architects and engineers during implementation — not solely in a strategy or requirements capacity
  • Track record of developing content strategies and recommendations for complex customer journeys or large-scale digital ecosystems
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer insight, research, and business goals into focused, actionable creative briefs
  • Experience collaborating with writers, designers, brand teams, video teams, and agencies
  • Strong editorial judgment and the ability to assess whether content is clear, useful, persuasive, and appropriate for its audience
  • Experience leading structural content work for a large digital ecosystem, CMS transformation, or AEM replatforming initiative
  • Expertise in content modeling, taxonomy, metadata, information architecture, and structured content
  • Proven ability to create reusable content across multiple experiences, channels, or brands
  • Skilled facilitator with experience helping senior stakeholders resolve ambiguity and establish shared standards
  • Experience governing regulated, substantiated, or otherwise sensitive customer-facing information
  • Understanding of search, semantic structure, accessibility, and how AI systems retrieve and represent content
  • Portfolio or case studies demonstrating how you identified a content need, shaped the strategy, guided its creation, and implemented the supporting content structure
